About the Teaching

Menri Shedrup Rinpocse

The Great Secret Mother Tantra, Thugjé Nyima taught by the Buddha Kuntuzangpo, the Supreme Secret King, to the Great Mother Kyema Ötsho is an extremely important and foundational scripture of Secret Mother tantra. It contains three parts:

  • 1. The Base Tantra – the tantra of primordial Buddhahood
  • 2. The Path Tantra – the tantra of manifest Buddhahood
  • 3. The Fruit Tantra – the tantra of complete Buddhahood

Together these three are called the "Mother Tantra of the Three Buddha Tantras." Within them, every method and instruction for achieving complete happiness is fully taught.

The owner of these tantra's teachings, the Great Mother Kyema Ötsho, transmitted them to her student, the great practitioner and royal-lineage Milü Samlek. He studied and practiced the Base Tantra for fifty years, the Path Tantra for fifty years, and the Fruit Tantra for fifty years. Through this, realization arose from within, and he led not only himself but all his followers and subjects to the state of complete and perfect Buddhahood. For the benefit of future generations, he composed clear and accessible commentaries on these three tantras.

The present teaching focuses on the chapter on the Path of Liberation from the Mother Tantra, along with its commentary called Drolam Rinchen Purkyén ("Precious Condition of the Path of Liberation"). Within that commentary, the teaching called "The Seventeen Meditation Stages of the Great Secret Mother Tantra, Thugjé Nyima" is presented.
