Cha Kengtse – Retreat on the Enlightened Wisdom Deity
With Geshe Yungdrung Gyatso
In person and online
Date: October 30 - November 1, 2026
Organized by Ligmincha Magyarország
About the Teaching
Cha Kengtse is an enlightened Wisdom Deity and the external manifestation of Sherab Mawe Senge (known in Sanskrit as Manjushri), the embodiment of awakened wisdom. This profound practice has been treasured for centuries within the Yungdrung Bön tradition as a powerful method for cultivating intelligence, knowledge, and wisdom while removing the inner and outer obstacles that prevent us from realizing our full potential.
Practicing Cha Kengtse strengthens memory, sharpens the mind, enhances creativity and artistic expression, increases confidence, and supports prosperity and abundance. It also brings greater harmony to body, speech, and mind, helping practitioners develop stability, clarity, and insight in both meditation and everyday life. As our wisdom grows, we become more capable of learning, making skillful decisions, and responding to life’s challenges with openness, compassion, and confidence.
What You Will Learn
During this retreat, Geshe Yungdrung Gyatso will transmit teachings from the extensive Cha Kengtse sadhana and provide clear, practical instructions for integrating this sacred practice into daily life.
Participants will learn:
Each participant will receive a practice text to support continued practice after the retreat.
The Many Manifestations of Enlightened Wisdom
In the Yungdrung Bön tradition, enlightened deities manifest in different forms expressing enlightened body, speech, qualities, and activities. Each manifestation of Cha Kengtse embodies a particular enlightened function.
Some manifestations are practiced to increase prosperity and abundance. Others inspire creativity, learning, eloquence, music, and the arts. Some strengthen health, vitality, and confidence, while others remove obstacles, including those arising from harmful spiritual influences.
Each manifestation has its own mantra and method, allowing practitioners to engage the aspect that best supports their present circumstances and aspirations.
A Living Lineage Practice
Cha Kengtse is known as the external manifestation of Sherab Mawe Senge because his enlightened activity is especially direct, practical, and immediately beneficial. Throughout history, many accomplished Bön masters have attained remarkable realization through this practice. It is said that Nyame Sherab Gyaltsen, the great reformer of the Yungdrung Bön tradition, himself perfected this practice and received many auspicious signs and accomplishments.
Today, this precious lineage continues uninterrupted. At great monasteries such as Menri Monastery in India, Triten Norbutse Monastery in Nepal, and many other Bön monasteries, Cha Kengtse practice forms an essential part of the annual training of monks.
Before the beginning of each academic year, the monks undertake a seven-day retreat dedicated to Sherab Mawe Senge. On the penultimate night, following the empowerment, they remain in uninterrupted practice throughout the entire night, focusing specifically on the practice of Cha Kengtse.
Oral Transmission and Practical Guidance
This retreat offers a rare opportunity to receive authentic oral transmission and practical guidance directly from Geshe Yungdrung Gyatso.
For the first time, he will present this profound cycle of Cha Kengtse teachings in the Western world, opening the door to one of the Bön tradition’s most treasured methods for awakening wisdom and transforming everyday life.
Whether you seek deeper meditation, greater clarity, creative inspiration, academic success, increased prosperity, or the removal of obstacles on your spiritual path, this retreat offers timeless methods to awaken the innate wisdom that already exists within you.
